A rather touching film on a flightless bird’s attempt to experience the one thing it can never do – flight

Runaway

January 23, 2007

run-away.jpg

I’ve walked away with my future
and cant let go of my past
I’ve walked out the door
this goodbye is my last
the fog sticking to my once dry sweatshirt

I’m losing sight
of what is right and
I’m starting to believe
that my life is a useless fight

I push my legs harder
I’m carrying myself away from what is real
all the people who say they care
make it too hard to feel

found on the side of the road
laying as if dead
the friend who cared the most
wonders what the girl never said

the man, badged and sporting black
tears apart the teenagers life
asks her what was going on
what caused her so much strife

she tells them all her problems
and her depression without choice
tells them of her family
and if they care to hear her voice

all the memories come back to me
all the memories, close but far away
they help me realize
what made me run away

Expand your mind

January 16, 2007

There is no way other parts of the world can be opened up for you; there is no way that you can release new things out of you, if you do not allow yourself to expand beyond where it is you are right now.

Because as you continue to do the same old things over and over again, you go through the same patterns, you have the same thinking process that you come up with the same old ideas.

Undaunted curiosity

“We don’t know what we’ll find when we get there, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we get back.”

— Lewis and Clark

To me, it not only speaks of undaunted curiosity, but also of having the guts to seek out the unknown.  The future is never certain, and often we have incomplete information before setting out on something new.  Its is with guts and the childish nature of wanting to find out what’s out there, that sets apart the explorer and the unwilling traveller who simply has to move along with the flow of life.

Critical thinking

The best students are those who never quite believe their professors.  However, one ought not to reject the data merely because one does not like what the data implies.

Freedom and Responsibility

Freedom is only part of the story and half the truth …  That is why I recommend that the Statute of Liberty on the East Coast be supplanted by a Statute of Responsibility on the West Coast.
